I completed the Puma Garburn Trail race on Saturday. To be honest I had a hard week last week and was debating on Friday night whether to do this one at all, but being committed as I am trying to raise some money for charity (”and tight, as I had paid for it”), I travelled up on Saturday am.
What a beautiful location. Staveley Village is really easy to find. Everything was very well organised and everyone very friendly. The run however was a killer. Doing a half marathon on road is a walk in the park compared to this. Granted I was a bit tired anyway but it was hot and humid and there were lots of hills. It was a great challenge and I did it in 2 hours 20 minutes but my goodness were my legs aching afterwards, and my back and my arms.
The scenery was stunning but i don’t think I fully appreciated it at the time. I made it about half way up to the Garburn pass until I had to walk for while. i don’t think there were many who ran all the way up. Coming down was a challenge as well. It’s difficult to slow yourself down and you were running over rocks and boulders and the odd mountain biker.
All in all a lovely day, a great challenge but hard work. Humber Bridge next in June…..
